Sophie is a present, aware and attuned human, navigating life in its depths.
Sophie has taken great honour and pleasure in learning and developing a foundational and explorative relationship to the human body, which has been further expounded and pursued during her post-secondary studies in Human Physiology & Education. This further education also allowed her to welcome a new chapter of her story – a devoted journey of somatic healing, teaching yoga & studying mindfulness.
When Sophie finally went all in on herself, she was met with the wisdom and art of the body.
Through her perseverance, commitment, and authenticity, she had developed such an embodied understanding of the inner processes of this innate artform we carry within ourselves. Through many years of dedication to her own body and teaching others how to breathe and be with their bodies, Sophie has become attuned to the reverence, environment and respect that this type of alchemy calls for and deserves.
Sophie was an artist from a young age, however she didn’t have mentors that could help her to see and nurture her own gifts. She believes that the mentors we encounter on our paths are foundational to our own expression. These supportive relationships can offer a nurturing presence that is especially important in fostering creativity – and her path meant she would need to find other pathways in order to cultivate this in herself.
As she grew older, she was exposed to even further examples of how these types of supportive mentorships could have offered her different opportunities to develop deeper with her own inner artist. This was a catalyst in helping Sophie recognize that there was a clear pull (888)
In her work today, Sophie offers coaching services for those looking to have support as they further explore their own attunement. Attunement is the energy of our self in relationship to the world around us.
Alongside this, she has a focus on Nude Portraiture, which is another avenue of expansion and opportunity to explore that attunement, and inner artistry in relation to the natural world.
Nude Portraiture is a raw experience of the connected nature of being witnessed, seen, praised and celebrated. Rooted in bearing witness to the connectivity of Woman and the essence of her expression through and conversation with the natural world.
Attunement varies from person to person, which is why Sophie sees the opportunity to work with Nude Portraiture as a gift.
When Sophie has worked with others teaching movement practices, she rarely follows a script or alignment cues. This is because of her innate ability to talk to the bodies before her with an appreciation and understanding of the unique structure or shape the body can take.
How does the body express solitude? How does the body sound when it transitions through grief? How can the form of these expressions show up in our expulsion of emotion?
Furthermore, Sophie asks as she wields her lens, how can we allow for the further flow of this expression through Nude Portraiture?
In her facilitation of Nude Portraiture, the same nature precedes. She is fully present as a guide to invite the human body to slow down and be witnessed – in raw form.
Her desire is for this work, this art of the body, to carry forward. To evolve, to make more shapes, to be storytelling of all the hardships and heartache.
Sophie is an active participant in her own Self Portraiture work, as it is the result of her own devotion and symbiosis with nature.
Her pull to share this type of Experiential Photography with others is woven into the commitment she has to her own artistry.
Sophie is not an artist who creates for any beauty standards of an externally-assembled environment, but one who is in awe of what we can achieve by following the pull of our bodies' teachings – the art that is within our bodies.
